Estonian Wall Art

Funk-modernism architecture print - bringing a new sublime minimalistic vision to what a Nordic living is about.

The birth of Estonian Functionalism (modernism) is dated to the completion of architect Herbert Johanson’s “villa” at 6 Toompuiestee, Tallinn 1929. The appearance of this house came as such a surprise that even daily newspaper Päevaleht had a headline “With or without the roof?“. The location of a the building at angle to the street, which left the public aghast, did not follow free plan. Although Johanson had deliberately introduced a compositional effect by erecting walls which emphasised the interplay between private and public spaces.
